Luers, Mae Lyon
Mae Lyon Luers, 89, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, at her residence in Grapevine, Texas. A family memorial service will be held in Iowa in summer 2014.
Mae (never call her Mabel) was born Jan. 12, 1924, in Richland, Iowa, the oldest of four daughters born to Floyd and Ruby Lyon. She was a graduate of Richland High School class of 1941. Mae was a Registered Nurse, earning her license from Deaconess Hospital in Marshalltown. Mae served her country as a staff nurse at the U.S. General Hospital in Fort Custer, Mich., during the Korean War.
Mae married Harold Arthur Luers on Dec. 20, 1945. Mae was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend.
She loved travel, golf, bridge and cooking. Over the past 68 years Mae and Harold enjoyed many adventures, including world travel destinations, sailing in the Caribbean and travel throughout the continental United States, Alaska and Mexico.
Mae and family were 35-year members of First United Methodist Church in Manchester, Iowa. Mae and Harold are current members of First United Methodist Church of Grapevine, Texas.
Survivors include her husband, Harold Luers; son, Dennis Luers of Grapevine; daughter and son-in-law, Karla and Steve Christensen of Elk River, Minn.; grandson, Michael Luers of Richardson, Texas; granddaughter, Michelle and husband Jonathan O'Neal of Austin, Texas; and sisters, Betty Jean Pischel of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Alma and husband Mervin Wright of St. Louis, Mo.
Extended family members include Jenny and Sam Mottlow and children, Jazlynne, Treyton and Pyper, of Elk River, Minn.; Jennifer and Kenny Wells and children, Kendall, Jonny and Jacob, of Spring, Texas; and Jared and Cydney Sisco of Everett, Wash.; along with numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Should friends desire memorials may be made to The Alzheimer's Association.
