Luella Rose, 102, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2022, at her home.
Luella Rose "Lolly" was born on Sept. 7, 1919, in Iowa Township, to Edwin H. and Ada May (Wagner) Frese. She was a graduate of Oxford High School. She worked at Economy Advertising in Cedar Rapids from 1940-43, then Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids from 1943-63 as an inspector. She married Verlin R. Thomas on May 17, 1947, in Cedar Rapids. He preceded her in death. She was then married to Walter F. Rose on Dec. 24, 1978, in Cedar Rapids. Walter also preceded her in death. Luella was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Cedar Rapids for many years, helping to support community ministry.
Family members preceding Luella in death include her four brothers, Martin Frese, Ivan Frese, Frank Frese and Ted Frese; nephew, Charles Frese of Oxford; and nieces, Virginia Scheetz, Elayne Frese and Juanita Cochran of Oxford. Additional family members include the children and grandchildren of nieces and nephews.
Luella’s life was enriched by Christine Heintz, and neighbors Orrie Smith, Tom Smith, and Terri Gairns, for many years beginning when they were young, remaining part of the family. Lolly’s hobbies included dancing, shopping and gambling whenever possible.
A short memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories in Cedar Rapids. Interment will follow at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
