Luella E. Gipe, 87, passed away Sunday, Feb. 7, 2016, at the Vinton Lutheran Home following a stroke.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, at Vinton Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Jessica Crane-Munoz officiating. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church on Wednesday. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton.
Memorials may be left for the Vinton Lutheran Home.
Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements.
Luella was born Aug. 30, 1928, in Independence, Iowa, the daughter of Samuel and Magdalena (Boger) Gipe. She was employed at Vinton Produce Co. and later, the Vinton Ham Plant. She was a longtime member of Vinton Presbyterian Church.
After she retired, she and her longtime companion, Mary Bolenbaugh, toured the United States, Nova Scotia and Quebec in their V.W. minivan. With the help of family, she and Mary built their home north of Vinton. After Mary's death in 2006, Luella remained in their home until she moved to Windsor Manor and later the Vinton Lutheran Home.
She is survived by her longtime friends, Sylvia Schoonover, Janet and Keith Elwick and family and Ruth Dulin and family; and many nieces and nephews
Luella was preceded in death by her companion, Mary; her parents; two brothers, George and Dale Gipe; and two sisters, Elizabeth Smith and Sarah Gipe.
