Royal H. "Roy"
Luedtke Jr., 73, of Annawan, Ill., formerly of Geneseo, Ill., passed away Friday, Aug. 7, 2009, at Trinity Medical Center West Campus, Rock Island. A Funeral Mass celebrating his life will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Annawan. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo, where military honors will be accorded. Family and friends of Roy may call from 5 to 8 tonight at Vandemore Funeral Home in Atkinson, Ill., where a Scripture service will be held at 7:45 p.m.
Memorials may be directed to the Royal H. Luedtke Memorial Fund.
Roy was born Feb. 17, 1936, in Rio Creek, Wis., the son of Royal A. Luedtke Sr. and Marie Vandermause. He was a graduate of Casco High School in Wisconsin and served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was united in marriage to Veronica Kinnard on Aug. 23, 1958, in Lincoln, Wis. She passed away in 2001. Roy had been a longtime Independent cattle buyer in the Geneseo and surrounding area, retiring in 2002. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Annawan, and enjoyed antiquing, wintering in Florida, where he operated a flea market, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his children and spouses, Julie and Dan Jackson, Andalusia, Ill., Brenda Anderson and Scott Bridge, East Moline, Ill., Lori and Scott Flood, Cambridge, Ill., Michelle and Rod Belville, Oregon, Wis., Brad and Sandra Luedtke, Hinton, Royal Luedtke, Rockton, Ill., Joseph and Michelle Luedtke, Highlands Ranch, Colo., Scott and Jenn Luedtke, Centennial, Colo.; 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Germaine Chase, Kewaunee, Wis., and Darlene Charles, Howard, Wis.; brothers, Leonard Luedtke, Kewaunee, Wis., Wayne Luedtke, Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, Gary Luedtke, Algoma, Wis., and Larry Luedtke, Storm Lake; and a special friend, Marge Campbell, Oxford.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Veronica; and a granddaughter, Amanda Luedtke in 2006.
