Ludwig, John P.
John P. Ludwig, 62, of Solon, died Monday, May 6, 2013, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. Memorial services will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established to support those interests of John and Paula's that they've supported over the years. One especially is the Solon Food Bank - please share any food you might want to give to his family with those that benefit from your generosity at the food bank.
Online condolences may be sent for John's family through the Web at www.gayandciha.com.
John Phillip Ludwig was born Jan. 16, 1951, in Galesburg, Ill., the son of Walter and Edna (Rouse) Ludwig. Following graduation from high school in Galesburg he entered the United States Air Force during the Vietnam conflict. On Dec. 10, 1983, he married Paula Sue Sweet here in Iowa City. The couple lived here for many years, John working some construction, was associated with NAPA stores, and the University of Iowa. They moved to North Carolina for a short period, back to Iowa City in 1995, and then in 1998 to Solon where they have resided since.
John was a member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, and one of the founding members of Our Lords Church in Solon. John never quite grew up, he loved being the kid, and those around him loved him doing so. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, crocheting, and sharing his bounties with others, a more generous man would be hard to find! Rumor has it that he has crocheted enough afghans to cover the state of Iowa tip to tip. He was also a lover of animals, no matter the species.
His family includes his wife, Paula; sister, Pat Fugete (John), and brother, Terry Ludwig (Margaret), both of Viola, Ill.; numerous nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law, Linda Evenden (John) of Granite City, Ill., and Bev Sweet (Todd Lemke) of Solon.
John was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Jim Ludwig.
Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for John's family and his arrangements.
