Lucinda "Cindy" Rae McDonald, 77, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 18, 2021, at her home surrounded by her loving family. A public visitation will be held on Sunday, Feb. 21 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Private services will be held on Monday at First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. online.church/ at 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 22, 2021. Burial will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Following the continued guidance from health officials, physical distancing must be practiced, which requires a limited number of people allowed into the visitation at one time. The use of facemasks or shields is required.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 54 years, Mike McDonald of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; three children, JP (Sue) McDonald of Marion, Iowa, Katie Chism of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Dr. Josh (Lauren) McDonald of North Liberty, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Andy and Allie McDonald, Colton and Cade Chism, and Elaina, Elise and Nora McDonald.
Cindy was born on Jan. 20, 1944, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Maurice and Miriam (Hungerford) Ritenour. She graduated from Washington High School in 1962. Cindy received her bachelor's and master's degrees in education from the University of Iowa. She started her teaching career at College Community. Cindy retired from Cedar Rapids Community Schools after 40 years of service. Cindy was united in marriage to Mike McDonald on July 9, 1966, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Cindy was creative, nurturing, fun and humorous. She loved to draw, paint, read, and spend time with family and friends. Cindy contributed many volunteer hours, and much of her artwork, to the Mercy Auxiliary in Cedar Rapids. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Junior League of Cedar Rapids and Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. Cindy will be remembered for being a loving and wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
