Lucille Evelyn Sackett, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, May 12, 2017, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Funeral service:
1 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 15, at Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Lucille was born July 28, 1927, the daughter of Lewis and Lenora (Willard) Dunkel, in Hopkinton. She was married to James Donald Sackett on July 31, 1948, in Savannah, Ill. Together, they enjoyed traveling around the county in their motor home. He passed away in 2008.
Lucille worked for Rockwell Collins as a group leader in the White Room for 32 years. She also worked retail at Sears for 10 years. Lucille liked playing bingo and hunting mushrooms. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids. More than anything, Lucille loved spending time with her family.
Survivors include her four children, Barbara (Gerald) Dessert, Gary (Jennifer) Sackett, Larry (Ava) Sackett and Joan (Wendell) Snow; eight grandchildren, Megan (Andrew) Brigger, Cristina Dessert, Benjamin Sackett, Daniel Sackett, Lukas Garcia, Rachel Sackett, Amanda (Austen) Fiala and Emily (Eric) Fritz; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Sackett; three brothers, Harlan (Marie) Dunkel, Louis Dunkel and Lyle (Mary Anne) Dunkel; several nieces and nephews; and very special friends, Debbie, Keith and Gracie.
She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Sandra Kay Sackett; parents; three brothers; and one sister.
Memorials may be directed to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy or American Cancer Society in memory of Lucille.
