LUCILLE KREWSON
Van Horne
Lucille Jean Krewson passed away in Inde-pendence, Iowa, peacefully, in the evening of Dec. 7, 2014, at the age of 92 years, 10 months and 4 days.
Lucille Jean Krewson was born Feb. 3, 1922, to Robert Keck and Blanche Keck (Beasley) at Delta, Iowa. She was educated and graduated from Delta High School. She was an active member of the Delta Methodist Church, followed by the Van Horne, Salem United Methodist Church.
Lucille was united in marriage to Kermit Reid Krewson on Nov. 30, 1942, in Missouri. Their first child, Lyle Krewson (now of West Des Moines, Iowa) was born in 1943, while Kermit was in U.S. Army active duty, so that during the approximately two years he was in service in World War II, mother and baby lived with her parents. Lucille and Kermit then had a second son, Darrell, (now of Houston, Texas) in 1946; and after an interlude of 12 years, gave birth to son, Randy Krewson (now of Atkins, Iowa) in 1958; and to daughter Rhonda Krewson (now of Independence, Iowa) in 1961. The family had moved to Van Horne, Iowa, in 1957, where she lived until recent years.
Lucille is survived by her four children, Lyle Krewson (Judy), Darrell Krewson (Susan), Randy Krewson (Deb) and Rhonda Bitterman (Steve); and six grandchildren, Hamlin Krewson, Stacey O'Brien (Dave), Nicole Barnes (Kent), Cole Krewson, Garrett Bitterman and Bryanne Bitterman.
Her grandchildren have presented her with 13 great-grandchildren, Talia and Darien Krewson, Samara, Ansley, Tyler and Shawn O'Brien and Olivia, Emma, Elena, Cecelia, Elias, Josephina and Isaac Barnes; and step-grandchildren, Erin, Dan Usher, Tye Briggs, Jenna Hansen and Chad Bitterman.
She is also survived by three sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and sevaral cousins.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Blanche; her brother, Carl; and husband, Kermit.
She was lifelong friends with many people in Delta, where she grew up and for the many years she lived in Van Horne, where she was especially noted for making and donating many batches of "Lucille's Donut Holes" to community events and bake sales. It was a matter of great pride to her that she attended every Delta High School alumni banquet until the last one before her death.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, at Salem United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rose Marie Calderon-Kahn officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., Vinton. Interment will be at Garrett Cemetery near Delta.
A memorial fund has been established.
