Lt. Col. (Ret.) Robert Rowland McBride, 75, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Erie, Pa., died Friday, March 6, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Services: 2 p.m. Wednes-day, March 11, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 520 Wilson Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, at the funeral home. Burial, with military honors: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Robert Rowland McBride was born Dec. 16, 1939, in Westfield, N.Y., to his parents, Kenneth and Bertha (Killian) McBride. He attended and graduated from Erie High School. He attended Houghton College as a ministerial student, then attended Michigan State University, Catholic University of America, Wayne State University and Nova University, earning three master's degrees. Robert joined the U.S. Air Force in 1961 as an enlisted man and in 1967, was accepted into Officers Training School. In 2001, he retired as a lieutenant colonel. He also worked for 25 years at Grant Wood AEA as a school psychologist.
Robert is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary L. McBride, and his daughter, Veronica A. McBride, both of Cedar Rapids; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
He was active in the Civil Air Patrol Category H Reservists and was an Eagle Scout at age 14. Robert enjoyed collecting cars from the 1950s and was an excellent photographer.
His greatest love, however, was for his family, his friends and animals.
