Lower, John C.
John C. Lower, 88, of Ely, died Saturday, May 14, 2011, at Higley Mansion Care Center, Cedar Rapids. Graveside services: Forest Lawn Cemetery, Omaha, Neb., at a later date. Arrangements with Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his children, Robert Lower, Kirkland, Wash., Claudia Halley, Lenexa, Kan., Connie Follett, West Des Moines, Douglas Lower, Concord, Calif., and Bryan Lower, Ely, Iowa; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; brother, James Lower, Sioux City; and sister, Marion Ash, Alexandria, Va.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Irma; and brother, Wendell Lower.
John was born Oct. 25, 1922, the son of Charles and Dorothy (Friese) Lower, in Scranton, Iowa. He served his country with the United States Navy during World War II. On June 4, 1945, John was united in marriage to Irma Holtgrewe. She died June 19, 2006.
