Lowell "Gene" Eugene Harkness, 88, went to see his Lord and Savior, Wednesday, June 23, 2021.
Gene graduated from Wilson High School and then joined the U.S. Marine Corps, serving three years during the Korean War. After
serving his country, he earned his Bachelor's degree from Coe College, where he was a member of the National Collegiate Honor Society, Phi Beta Kappa and graduated Suma Cum Laude. Gene had a passion for spending time with his family and many friends. His grandchildren held a very special place in his heart. He loved walking, biking, scuba diving, traveling and reading. He had a tremendous heart for God and all people. This was evident in how he served the Lord and cared for every individual. He will be remembered for his great compassion, encouragement and kind words. Everyone who knew Gene were touched by him in some way and he will be greatly missed.
