Lowell E. Weaver, 84, of Iowa City, passed away Sunday, July 9, 2017, at Briarwood Health Care Center in Iowa City.
A service celebrating Lowell's life will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, July 14, at Gay & Ciha Funeral Service in Iowa City, with visitation preceding the service beginning at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Briarwood or Essence of Life Hospice. Lowell Elvin Weaver was born April 18, 1933, in Keota, Iowa, son of Galen and Dorothy (Brubaker) Weaver. Lowell graduated from Keota High School and worked most of his life in transportation/delivery or driving-related positions, retiring from the University of Iowa Hospital's Patient Transportation after many years of service. On Sept. 7, 1958, he married Margaret Cox in South English at the Church of the Brethren.
Lowell enjoyed being a grandpa, father and husband, and did so with great love! He also enjoyed making homemade ice cream, crafting outdoor wood decor, Hawkeye athletics and time spent with friends, often at coffee groups or playing cards.
His family includes his wife, Margaret; son, Jeff Weaver of Iowa City; daughter, Chris Stilwell (Matt) of Iowa City; grandchildren, Tavian and Nick Stilwell; brother, LaVernon Weaver (Betty) of Rogers, Ark.; sisters, Ilene Irons of Colorado Springs, Colo., Lucille Epperly (Dean) of Williamsburg, Iowa, and Laurilee Chalupa of Washington, Iowa; sister-in-law, Doris Wilson of Iowa City; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Debra; sister, Darlene Nelson; and brothers-in-law, Marvin Nelson, Bob Chalupa and Ed Wilson.
Lowell's family would like to acknowledge the loving care provided to them by the staff at Briarwood and Essence of Life Hospice, and the outpouring of love and support shared by their friends.
