Lovell, James G.
James G. Lovell, 94, of 302 Seventh Ave., Hiawatha, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, by the Rev. Fredrich Mellberg. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home. Burial: Center Point Cemetery, Center Point, Iowa.
Survivors include his son, Donald (Shari) Lovell of Shellsburg; his daughters, Ruby (Jack) Wethington of Stanwood and Dixie (David) Carothers of Hiawatha; his third daughter, Shirley (Leo) Peiffer of Langworthy; grandchildren, Richard Lovell, Robert Lovell, James Lovell, Randy Lovell, Ronald Lovell, Marty Lovell, Sandra Miller, Barbra Ries, Chuck Lovell, Lonnie Lovell, Ronald Lamphier, Debra Wilson, Connie Dahlin and Dave Carothers Jr.; 30 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; his special friend, Diane Gent; and special pet, Toby.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Dorthy; parents; son, Melvin Lovell; sisters, Edith Rich and Bertha Andrews; and brothers, Irvin Lovell and Lloyd Lovell.
Born July 7, 1916, in Tipton, Iowa, James was the son of James Henry and Cora Belle (Morgan) Lovell. On Dec. 12, 1936, he was united in marriage to Dorthy Edaburn. She died Nov. 20, 2008. James farmed, worked for Universal Engineering, Cedar Rapids Hyde and Fur, Armstrongs and the Alburnett Elevator.
His joys were coon hunting, fishing, attending parades with his mule and pony teams, dancing and baking cinnamon rolls, for which he was well known.
James dearly loved his family.
