Louis Kaplan, 86, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospice in Cedar Rapids. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at Hrabak Funeral Service of Belle Plaine with Pastor Charles Johnson officiating. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery, Belle Plaine, with military honors. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Louis was born Dec. 29, 1928, at his home in Chelsea, Iowa, to Charles and Hattie (Vajgrt) Kaplan. He graduated from Belle Plaine High School. Following school, he entered the military where he participated in the Korean conflict. On June 7, 1953, Louis married Evelyn Benda. To this union, five children were born. Following the military, Louis farmed around the Belle Plaine area. Louis was a proud member of the Belle Plaine Legion for 60 years.
He is survived by his son, Dale (Michelle) Kaplan of Belle Plaine; daughters, Linda (Reggie) Dietze of Victor, Kathy Kaplan and Steve Shaffer of Montezuma and Susan (Dave) McConnell of Victor; brother, Morris Kaplan of Cedar Rapids; sister, Wilma (Marvin) DeRycke of Cedar Rapids; 15 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn Kaplan; sisters, Pauline Miller, Louise Vols; and son, Charles Kaplan.
