Louis James Hurt III, passed peacefully in his sleep with his wife Charlene by his side on Saturday, July 23, 2022.
Louie’s Celebration of Life will be Saturday, July 30, 2 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, Belle Plaine, Iowa. A social time will follow, please join us for coffee and cookies – Louie’s favorite treat. There will be a private family burial service following the social time.
Louie was preceded in death by his parents, Agnes and Louis Hurt II and his sister, Helen.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Charlene; sister, Mary Lowe; sister-in-law, Jayne Bradford Peremsky; brother-in-law, Michael Mandel; several nephews, nieces, great-nephews/nieces and cousins.
Louie was born Aug. 10, 1935. He grew up in rural Tama County, farming for many years on his family farm. He also was an auto mechanic with his friend Leon, and then worked at Amana Refrigeration until his retirement. Louie was an amazing mechanic. He had the ability to figure out any mechanical problem, fix it, even tooling his own parts.
He was a member of NFW and Christ United Methodist Church.
Louie loved being outdoors in his garden and enjoyed socializing with friends at auctions. He was a good son, husband, brother, uncle and neighbor. A true “one of a kind” man willing to help others. He will be missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, Belle Plaine.
