Louis "Louie" Hubert Fordice, 86, of Solon, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015, at Hallmark Care Center in Mount Vernon. Celebration of Life services will be 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, at Brosh Chapel in Solon, located at 100 S. Cedar St., where full military rites will be conducted by the Solon American Legion. Visitation will be from 1 until 4 p.m. Sunday at the chapel. Private family inurnment will be in Shueyville Cemetery at a later date.
Louis was born May 30, 1928, in Shueyville, the son of Linton and Leila (Brockway) Fordice. Louis served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict, where he earned the Bronze Star. Louis was united in marriage to Anna Kay Mathias on Oct. 16, 1953, in Shueyville. He worked for over 37 years at FMC Linkbelt Speeder, retiring in 1993.
He was an original member of the Ely Snowdrifters and the Solon American Legion. He was an avid fan of the Cubs, Hawkeyes and Packers regardless of the outcome. Louie enjoyed outdoor activities, camping, traveling, gardening, attending family sporting and school events, and spending time with his family.
Louie is survived by his children, Mike (Mary), Gary (Sharon), Dale (Kim) and, Judy (Larry) Serovy, all of Solon, and John (Sandra) of Swisher; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and his brothers, Jim Fordice of Rowley and Fred Fordice of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Anna Kay, on Oct. 6, 2013; an infant grandson, Kyle; his siblings, Harry Fordice and Martha Fordice; and a sister-in-law, Beulah Fordice.
