Lotus A. Goodrich, 94, of Malcom, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2014, at Lantern Park Nursing and Rehab Center in Coralville. A funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 10, at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell, with the Rev. Keith Carlson officiating. Casket bearers will be his grandchildren, Nate Goodrich, Todd Goodrich, Stacy Raines, Tony Goodrich, Jennifer Rubino, Andy Ross, Jason Ross and Molly Ostby. Interment will be at Ivy Hill Cemetery near Malcom. Friends may call at the funeral home beginning 3 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m.
Memorials may be directed to the Malcom Fire Department or the Malcom Presbyterian Women's Association and sent c/o Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112.
Lotus was born Nov. 9, 1919, in Malcom, Iowa, to Charles and Harriet Garretson Goodrich. He was raised in Malcom and graduated from Brooklyn High School with the class of 1936.
On Aug. 31, 1941, he was united in marriage to Irene Richman at her parents' home in Brooklyn. The couple operated a grain and livestock farm near Malcom until their retirement in 1981. Following their retirement, they moved into the community of Malcom.
Lotus enjoyed gardening, sharing his produce, canning tomatoes, fishing, playing cards with family and telling a good joke. His greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his son, Larry (Darlene) Goodrich of Gravois Mills, Mo.; one daughter, Marla (Wayne) Ross of Brooklyn; his daughter-in-law, Lynda Goodrich of Johnston; eight grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
Lotus was preceded in death by his wife; his son, Thomas; one grandson, Brad Goodrich; three brothers, Virgil, Charles and Marion Goodrich; and three sisters, Olevia Lidtka, Xavie Richman and Viola Heath.
