Loshman, Carol Louise (Hof)
Carol Louise (Hof) Loshman, 74, of Calumet, died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, at Sunset Knoll Nursing Home in Aurelia. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, where family will greet family and friends one hour before service time. Arrangements are under the direction of Boothby Funeral Home, Cherokee.
Carol was born July 14, 1937, in Sumner, Iowa, the daughter of Carl Hof Sr. and Lula (Messerer) Hof. She was raised in the Sumner area on the family farm. Carol attended school in Sumner before moving to Cedar Falls, where she graduated high school from Iowa State Teachers College in 1955.
On Dec. 3, 1955, Carol married her high school sweetheart Dean Loshman in San Diego, Calif., where he was stationed while serving in the U.S. Navy. When Dean was honorably discharged the couple returned to Iowa.
Carol had a passion for cross stitching and passed on many of her beautiful creations.
Long Lake in Longville, Minn., was a second home to Carol and Dean. Many of her most special memories happened at the lake. This was a time of shopping, fishing, boating, fish fries, campfires, family and friends visiting and watching her family grow.
Survivors include her husband, Dean of Calumet; children and their spouses, Denise (Craig) Haupt and Lisa (Steve) Oberbroeckling, both of Sumner, and Steve (Gina) Loshman of Calumet; sisters, Evelyn Keel of Columbia, Mo., Phyllis (Stan) Donat of Fayette and Jeannette (Art) Reusch and Donna Jacobi, both of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Theresa Jean; sisters, Lillian and Ethel June; and brothers, Carl and infant boy.
