Lorraine E. Snell, 95, formerly of Fairfax, died Sunday, Aug. 30, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Fairfax, by the Rev. Dustin Vu. Burial: St. Patrick Cemetery, Fairfax. A rosary will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Teahen Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, where friends may visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Lorraine is survived by her four children, Judy (Clark) Derhammer of Cedar Rapids, David (Cynthia) Snell of Cedar Falls, Robert (Karen) Snell of Pueblo West, Colo., and Donald (Helen) Snell of Fairfax; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Laverne (Charles) Fisher of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester; four brothers, Eldo, Marlyn, Mike and Art; and five sisters, Lucile, Wilma, Helen, Leona and Thelma.
Lorraine Elizabeth Schulte was born on Aug. 28, 1920, in Benton County, the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Boddicker Schulte. She graduated from Walford High School and married Lester William Snell on Feb. 25, 1941, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Walford. He died in 1982. She worked as a clerk at Vorel's Grocery Store and later at Bob's Meat Market in Fairfax. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Fairfax, the American Legion Auxiliary and Catholic Order of Foresters.
Lorraine loved spending time with her family, cooking and baking for them on the holidays and was known for her kolaches and cinnamon rolls. She enjoyed dancing and traveling to dances with friends. Lorraine was also very involved in church activities.
A memorial fund has been established.
