Lorraine M. Oakes Minney, 94, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, May 28, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital. Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church, Hiawatha. The Rev. Daniel Krueger will officiate. Burial: 2:30 p.m. Monday at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens near Oelwein. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Linda (Tom) McGrath of Maynard; two step-daughters, Diane Minney of Cedar Rapids and Patricia (Alan) Hanson of Robins; a stepson, Douglas (Joan) Minney of Cedar Rapids; and a sister, Jean Schlegel of Maynard. She also is survived by four grandchildren, Dana, Chris, Tony and Nikki; two stepgrandchildren, Chris and Leah; seven great-grandchildren; and several stepgreat- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands and a brother-in-law, Aaron Schlegel.
Lorraine was born Jan. 30, 1921, in Fayette County, the daughter of John and Tressa Wilkinson Miehe. She married Roy Oakes in April 1941. He passed away in 1978. Lorraine later married William Minney in March 1982. William passed away in 2010.
She was a bookkeeper and worked for the Hazelton Elevator for many years and later, Heating and Cooling in Waterloo.
Lorraine was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, canning and especially the time spent with her beloved family and many friends. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
Memorial donations may be given to the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy or Zion Lutheran Church in Lorraine's name.
