LORRAINE IRWIN
Victor
Lorraine M. Irwin, 94, of Victor, died Wednesday, June 17, 2015, at Marengo Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, June 22, at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Victor with the Rev. Brian Shepley presiding. Organist will be Vera Beth Bricker and soloist Anna Upah. Pallbearers will be Matthew and Scott Crow, Tom Harty, Gary Kaiser and Jeff, Mitchell and Rhett Thys. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Victor. Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Smith Funeral Home in Victor with the family present from 4 to 7 p.m. A rosary will be said at 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home followed by a Scripture service at 7 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Bridget Catholic Church or Victor QRS.
Lorraine was born June 18, 1920, in Keystone, Iowa, the daughter of Martin and Grace O'Brien Barron. She was raised in Keystone and was a 1937 graduate of Keystone High School. For several years, she did house cleaning for several families in the Victor area. On June 26, 1954, she was united in marriage with Cecil "Mike" Irwin at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Van Horne, Iowa. The couple continued to make their home in Victor where she was employed for many years at the Victor veterinary office with Dr. Seda and Dr. Wilgenbusch.
She was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. She was a member of the Victor American Legion Auxiliary and she was a volunteer at the V.A. Hospital in Iowa City for 23 years and had accumulated 50,050 hours of her time. Lorraine enjoyed socializing with friends over a cup of coffee. She was very active in the Victor community and was very involved with the Thys children's activities. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed following the Iowa Hawkeyes. She loved her trips to Hawaii and Ireland. Her faith in God and the Catholic church were very important to her.
Survivors include two nieces, Linda Kucia and Carole (Ron) Zarlengo of Denver, Colo.; special family members, Denise, Scott and Matt Crow and Jeff, Stephanie, Rhett, Mitchell, Benjamin and Rochelle Thys, all of Victor; and special friends, Bill and Jane Dietrich of Victor and Gary and Amy Kaiser of Keystone.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mike; two brothers, Ronald and Harold Barron; one sister-in-law, Irene Barran; and one great-nephew, Eric Perry.
