When one passes away at the age of 95, you have not died, rather, you have won the game of life. Lorna (Jurgens) Allers was born on Dec. 7, 1921, on a farm east of Van Horne to John and Namie (Klappholz) Jurgens and died Apri1 30, 2017. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, at Phillips Funeral Home, 92 Fifth Ave, Keystone. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 4, at St John's Lutheran Church with the Rev. B. Andrew Wright officiating. Interment will be in the Keystone Cemetery.

She was baptized and confirmed at St. Andrew's Church in Van Horne. In 1941, she moved to Keystone with her parents and joined St. John's Lutheran Church. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Allers on June 9, 1946. She worked with her husband and family in the grocery store and locker plant in Keystone.

At St. John's, she served as a Sunday school teacher, a member of the altar guild and a door greeter. She was an active member in the American Legion Auxiliary on the local, county and district levels, serving as president and secretary treasurer. Lorna was also a member of the Key Ladies at the Keystone Care Center, the Cedar Valley Polka Club, Terrific Trees and the Tara Hills Country Club.

Lorna enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, crafts, golfing, polka dancing and volunteering. Her great joy was to be with her family, especially her grandchildren and cooking for all of them.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Gene) Owens, and son, Ken Jr. (Deb) Allers of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Matt (Ashley) Allers of Webster City, Tim (Brooke) Owens of Omaha, Neb., and Amy (Joel) Markey of Cedar Rapids; and two great-grandchildren, Camden Markey and Laken Allers. Two sisters-in-law, Shirley Jurgens and Helen Jurgens; and many nephews and nieces also survive her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; her parents; her brothers, Kenneth, Arthur, Junior and Dean; and her sister, Dorothy Heitman.

Her family would like to express their deep appreciation for the wonderful staff at the Keystone Care Center for the four years of care they provided. The family also thanks John Heitman, Jo Schallau and Tami Fisher for the tremendous support they provided Mom.
