Lorma Fredene Lang, 72, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, March 30, 2014, in Dubuque, surrounded by her family. Celebration of life services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 3, at Brosh Chapel, Cedar Rapids, 2121 Bowling St. SW. Private family inurnment will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Wednesday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.
Lorma was born May 11, 1941, to Frederic and Marietta (Bixby) Lang and resided in Cedar Rapids. Frederic worked for a printing company and was a church organist. Marietta was a homemaker and sang in the church choir. Lorma was one of four children and the only girl. Starting in childhood, music and dancing became a big part of her life.
Lorma graduated from Washington High School, Cedar Rapids. She earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of Iowa. In 1965, Lorma married Les Stagg and started a family. She taught science and later worked for Area Substance Abuse Council as a prevention specialist. Later in life, Lorma obtained her ministerial degree and performed many weddings.
Lorma is survived by three children, Sherri Edwards (Dave) of Dubuque, Sue Slaybaugh (Bob), of Nisswa, Minn., and Jon Stagg (Melissa), of Marion; and three brothers, Michael (Janette) Lang, Bruce Lang and Rick (Cynthia) Lang.
Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, Richelle Stagg, Rebbecca (Daniel) Mitchell, Alexandrea Stagg, Tristin Ohrt-Stagg, Madisyn Stagg, Ayden Stagg, Greyson Stagg, Lauren Edwards, Anne Edwards, Trevor Slaybaugh and Ashley Slaybaugh; and one great-grandchild, Charlotte Mitchell.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved grandmother, Betty O'Reilly.
Lorma enjoyed playing softball both as a child and as an adult. She also loved nature and traveling, she visited every state except Alaska and Hawaii. Lorma was a fan of Julie Andrews and traveled to meet Julie in person. She was a kind and gentle heart and always strived to help everyone she met. She will be missed by all who knew her.
