Loretta J. Sims, 65, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018, at St Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Service: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23 at the funeral home. Burial at Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Loretta was born Aug. 14, 1953, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Wilbur and E. Arlene (Chalupa) Forbes. She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1971, and attended Hamilton Business College. On May 7, 1974, Loretta was united in marriage to Joseph Edward Sims, Jr. in Cedar Rapids. She worked as a CNA/LPN in nursing homes, at Hunters on the assembly line, and most recently at Pearson Education. She enjoyed bowling league and bingo on Sunday evenings at St. Ludmila Catholic Church. Loretta had a gift of making someone's day. She could always put a smile on someone's face.
Loretta is survived by her son, Joseph E. Sims III (Andrea) of Palo, Iowa; two grandchildren, Dayquan Sims of Marion, Iowa, and Alexis Sims of Palo; brother, Larry Forbes of Anamosa; and childhood friend, Donna Simmons of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph E. Sims, Jr.; parents, Wilber and E. Arlene Forbes; and sister-in-law, Diane Forbes.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for a fund to be established.
