Loretta S. Brunsmann, 94, of Dyersville, formerly of New Vienna, died peacefully Wednesday, July 22, 2015, surrounded by her family at Oak Crest Manor in Dyersville. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 24, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave. SW, Dyersville, where a parish vigil service will be held at 3 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, before the funeral service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 25, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Vienna, with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Carl Ries will officiate.
Loretta was born Aug. 13, 1920, in New Vienna, the daughter of John and Barbara (Elenz) Ries. She married Cletus Brunsmann on Jan. 16, 1940, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Vienna. Together they farmed in the New Vienna area until their retirement in 1994, when they moved to Dyersville. Loretta was a cook at St. Boniface School for many years. She volunteered at Oak Crest Manor, enjoyed cooking, gardening, flowers and the Chicago Cubs. She was well known for her apple pie.
Survivors include four daughters, Darlene (Roger) Osterhaus of New Vienna, Linda (Harold) Keesee of Bettendorf, Carla (Kenneth) Feldmann of Tucson, Ariz., and Ann (Steve) Frame of West Des Moines; eight grandchildren: Bruce (Traci) Osterhaus of Duluth, Ga., Bart (Lynn) Osterhaus, Brian (Leisa) Osterhaus, Jan (Jim) Pirc, all of Dyersville, Megan and Mitchell Feldmann of Tucson, Ariz,, and Sarah and Hannah Frame of West Des Moines; nine great-granddaughters, Ashley (Matthew) Striplin, Emily Osterhaus, Jill Osterhaus, Jordynn and Maya Osterhaus, Katie, Courtney and Olivia and Shelby Pirc; and two sisters, Bernice Gassmann and Alma Brunsmann, both of Manchester.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1996; her infant daughter, Janice; siblings, Alphonse Ries, Vincent Ries, Clarence Ries, Dorothy Biermann, Herbert Ries, Arthur Ries and Esther Steffen; and many brothers and sisters-in-law.
Memorials are preferred to St. Boniface Catholic Church or Oak Crest Manor.
