Loren C. Netz, 84, of Marion, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 23, 2017, at
St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a sudden illness. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, at Faith Lutheran Church, Marion. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, at Faith Lutheran Church, officiated by the Rev. John Albertson. The family also will greet friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. before the service. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion, with military honors.
Loren was born on Sept. 26, 1933, in Cleburne, Kan., to Carl and Fannie (Tidquist) Netz. He graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1951. Loren then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from 1951 to 1955. He attended Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, and then moved to Cedar Rapids, where he attended Coe College. He married Barbara Gasho on Sept. 1, 1957, in Fort Dodge. She passed away on Feb. 6, 2002. Loren worked in many trades and businesses throughout his long working career, most notably as a produce broker for over 20 years.
He was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church, where he and Barbara both sang in the choir and were caretakers of the church. Loren was gifted with the love of music and the arts. Loren especially enjoyed gardening and loved sharing his produce with his family and friends. He enjoyed many outdoor activities, including biking, fishing and golf.
Loren is survived by his children, Marcia Patterson of Laguna Vista, Texas, Reid Netz of Cedar Rapids and Karen (Chris) Lint of Center Point; three grandchildren, Lauren Netz, Anna Netz and Collin Lint; and brother, Dale Netz of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara; daughter, Lauri; brother, Robert; son-in-law, Larry Patterson; and special friends, Mary Jane Tietjen and Lynn Beckmann.
A memorial fund has been established in Loren's memory.
