LONNIE "LON" SCRIVEN SR.
Cedar Rapids
Lonnie "Lon" Emil Scriven Sr., 69, passed away peacefully at home Tuesday morning, May 19, 2015.
Lon was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on March 22, 1946, to Agnes and Hugh Scriven. He attended Prairie High School where he was a football and track standout. He graduated in 1965 and received a full scholarship from the University of Northern Iowa to play football. He was drafted into the U.S. Navy while in college and served in Vietnam.
Lon was loved by all and made a difference in the life of every single person he met. He was the go-to man of the family, a straight shooter and the one person everyone could go to for advice or help. He was generous, loving and would give anything for his family and friends. He was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle.
Lon loved the country and had his own piece of paradise where several family and friends were raised and grew up.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved dog, Sheba.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Scriven; daughter, Destiny Stucker; son, Lonnie E. Scriven Jr.; son, Brad Scriven; and daughter, Cassandra Scriven-Stephens. He has five siblings, Hugh, John, Roger, Anna and Susie; and four grandchildren, Sheniqua, Brajita, Dru and Melaney. He also has four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Lon is being cremated and buried on his piece of paradise he called home. Per Lon's wishes, there will be no viewing or any services. Instead, we will be having a celebration of life in the near future.
We would like to thank Hospice of Mercy for their help and support during this difficult time.
Lon will be missed and his legacy and impact will live on forever.
