Longeway (Grandpa), Richard
Richard Longeway (Grandpa), 82, of Nashville, Tenn., passed away at his home on Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010. A memorial service is to be held in Jackson, Tenn., on Saturday, Aug. 14, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1665 Highway 45 Bypass, at 11 a.m. Mr. Longeway will be buried beside his wife, Rita, at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rita.
Mr. Longeway is survived by his sons, Fred (Cass) Longeway of Gastonia, N.C., Dart (Debbie) Longeway of Jackson, Tenn., and Todd (Cathy) Longeway of Nashville, Tenn. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Lauren and Trad (Gretchen) Longeway of Jackson, Tenn., Natalie and Jed Longeway of Nashville, and his great-grandson, Trad Longeway Jr. of Jackson, Tenn.
N. “Dick” was born in Minneapolis, Minn., in 1927. He served in the Navy and upon discharge went to work for Cargill, where he retired after 29 years. Much of that time was spent in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where his three sons were raised. During that time, Mr. Longeway was active in community civic affairs, including being a member of the Rotary Club, having served as president and campaign director of the multiple sclerosis Society, president of the American Heart Association and president of the Chamber of Commerce. After his retirement, he and Rita relocated to Jackson, Tenn., where he lived for 15 years. Most recently he lived in Nashville. Grandpa loved to garden and win at bridge.
