Long, Shirley Kay
Shirley Kay Long, 73, of Marengo, formerly of Williamsburg, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at her home. Funeral Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, with the Rev. Matt German officiating. Burial will be in the East York Cemetery, rural Williamsburg. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
A memorial fund has been established.
She is survived by her sons, Tom Jr. and wife Sheila of Marengo and Ed Long and wife Jill of Malcom; six grandchildren, Cory Long (Amanda Rich) of Texas, Heath Long (Ashley) of Marengo, A.J. Long of Malcom, Zach Long of Marengo and Katie and Olivia Long of Colfax; and a great-grandchild, Avia Long of Texas.
Also surviving are a brother, Jerry Fenton (Joy) of Oskaloosa; and a sister, Mary Gay (Howard) of Oskaloosa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tom Long Sr. in 1998; and a brother, Don Fenton.
Shirley Kay Fenton was born May 1, 1940, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the daughter of Edmund Chester Fenton and Coretha Huffman Fenton. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1958 and married Thomas Robert Long on May 15, 1960, at Beacon Methodist Church. She worked as a nurses' aid at the Oskaloosa Hospital and later as a CNA and CMA and housekeeping at Hillside Estate from 1976 to 1996. She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards and spending time with her family and friends, especially the grandchildren. She also volunteered at the Senior Dining program.
