Long, Marlys R.
Marlys R. Long, 72, of Fairfax, died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Services: 11 a.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Dr. Kay Slocum. Burial: Fairfax Cemetery. Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Teahen Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids and after 10 a.m. Friday at the church.
She is survived by her husband, Dennis; four sons, Mike of Cedar Rapids, Mark (Denise) of Atkins, Monte (Kris) of Cedar Rapids and Mabry (Suzie) of Norway; nine grandchildren, Dennis G. (Tracy) Long, Tanya Long (Joe) DeNoyer, Jennifer (Eric) Greve, Eric (Amber) Long, Matthew Long, Jessica Long (Nick Machacak), Ryan, Darrell and Keri Long; five great-grandchildren, Toby Rath, Brock Crane, Levi Rath, Isac DeNoyer and Kylah Long; and sister, Judy (Ladell) Olson of Eagle Grove.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Carroll and Virgil; and sister, Lucille Eimers.
Marlys was born Aug. 19, 1939, in Fenton, the daughter of Arthur and Helene (Nemitz) Jentz. She married Dennis Long on June 9, 1957. She was employed by Sam's Club for the past 15 years where she was currently working as a supervisor.
Marlys and Dennis enjoyed traveling and camping. Family and friends were the most important thing to her and she will be dearly missed by all.
Memorials may be directed to St. Luke's Hospice or First Lutheran Church.
