LOIS WHITE
Iowa City
Lois Query White, 94, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Aug. 19, 2014.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry W. White.
Lois is survived by children, Sharon Smith, Linda McMeen (Jim) and James White (Thelma). She was a cherished grandmother to six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Lois was born in Adams County, Iowa. Lois graduated from Cumberland High School. The effects of the Great Depression prevented Lois from taking an advantage of an academic scholarship to attend college, hence she enrolled in teacher training program. She taught in a one-room-school, until her marriage to Harry W. White.
Lois was the first dietary supervisor when Oaknoll Retirement Residence opened in Iowa City. She and Harry helped facilitate the first Meals on Wheels initiative in Iowa City. Genealogy research became Lois's passion during her retirement years. Lois also perpetuated her mother's love of constructing quilts.
A celebration of Lois's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, at the Lensing Funeral Home, 605 Kirkwood Ave., Iowa City. Graveside services will be held at the Atlantic Cemetery, Atlantic, Iowa, at 3 p.m. Saturday
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Oaknoll Residence Foundation, Iowa City.
