Lois Menkemeller, 98, died Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2022, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, where friends may call after noon. By visiting goettschonline.com you may share your thoughts, memories and condolences with Lois’s family and sign the online guest book. Pastor Holly Knouse will officiate at the services. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello.
Surviving are two children, Lynn Lais and Robb Menkemeller; three grandchildren, Kristina (Michael) Dvorak, Ben (Kim) Lais and Brent (Shawna) Lais; seven great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson and great-great-granddaughter on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Alice Lange; infant sister, Gladys; her husband, Robert; and a son, Ted.
Lois Elizabeth Lange was born Sept. 29, 1923, at Scotch Grove, Iowa. She was the daughter of Otto and Mable Vasey, Lange. Lois attended the Timber School near Scotch Grove and graduated from the Monticello Community Schools. She continued her education at Cornell College in Mount Vernon.
Lois married Robert Menkemeller at the First Presbyterian Church in Monticello. Robert was in the military and they lived for several years in Alamogordo, N.M. The couple lived most of their married life in Minneapolis, Minn. Robert would precede her in death in 1987. Lois continued living in Minneapolis well into her 80s before returning to Iowa.
