Lois M. Mackey, 86, of Ely, died Saturday, June 4, 2016, at the Hiawatha Care Center. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, at St. Ludmila's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Burial will follow in St. John's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 6, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil.
Lois was born May 3, 1930, in Toddville, the daughter of Charles and Minnie (Hamer) Miller. She graduated from Toddville High School, Class of 1948, where she played basketball. Lois was united in marriage to Robert R. Mackey Jr. on Nov. 18, 1949, at St. Ludmila's Catholic Church. She worked at Mount Mercy College and College Community Schools for over 20 years until her retirement in 1992.
Lois enjoyed traveling, gambling, going to Indy races, fishing, gardening and spending time with her family.
Lois is survived by her children, Terry (Jan) Mackey of Ely, Kathy (Bill) Osborn of Ely, Kevin Mackey of Palo and Janice (Mark) Heathman of Swisher; 10 grandchildren, Amy, Billy, Tommy, Jennifer, Jeff, Gary, Crystal, Matt, Lindsy and Cody; 20 great-grandchildren; a brother, Wilbur (Phyllis) Miller of Olin; brother-in-law, Marvin Eberhard of Marion; sister-in-law, Barbara Mackey of Ely; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert, who died Sept. 17, 1994; an infant son, Gary; two sisters, Hazel Eberhard and Bernice (Bill) Wittenberg; and a brother-in-law, Dick Mackey.
