LOIS B. HAVLIK

Lois B. Havlik, 93, of Summit Point Senior Living, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully in her sleep surrounded by family
Sunday, July 7, 2019, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday
at All Saints Catholic Church by the Rev. John Flaherty. The Nurses Honor Guard
will pay tribute to Lois at
9:30 a.m. at the church. Burial: St. John Cemetery. A rosary will be held 4 p.m. Wednesday with a vigil service to follow at Teahen Funeral Home, where friends may visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m., and after 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Lois is survived by her two daughters, Christine (Wendell) Ridenour of Keswick and Julie (Brian) Minish of Lennox, S.D.; a son, Stephen of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Arlis (Bob) Ford of Hiawatha, Agnes McKone of Carroll and Marie DeBakey of Houston, Texas.
Her husband; sister, Hellen McGee; and brother, Bobby Kirsch; preceded her in death.
Lois was born March 1, 1926, in Charles City, the daughter of Louis and Eva Wolf Kirsch. She was united in marriage to Robert on Nov. 3, 1948, in Charles City. He died in 2012. She graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. Lois retired in 1988 after 40-plus years as a registered nurse at Mercy Hospital, where she served as a house supervisor for more than 22 years. She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, where she would help at the Fall Fest Days and the church garage sales by collecting and sorting the items. Lois also volunteered at Mercy Hospital (mostly in the gift shop), and St. Vincent de Paul and would deliver Christmas baskets with Bob.
Lois's greatest pleasure in life was her role as a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a very hard-working lady who enjoyed ballgames at Daniels Park with Bob and her family. She also enjoyed doing crafts, especially Christmas ones, and always kept her family well supplied with her handiwork.
Her mother, Eva, was her largest spiritual influencer in her life. Lois was very devoted to the Virgin Mary and prayed the rosary daily. She also had a strong faith in the Infant of Prague and carried a small statue of him with her. Lois always told people to "Believe in yourself!" She was a loving and welcoming person who had a beautiful smile, great sense of humor and cared for everyone deeply.
Lois' family would like to thank Summit Point, Drs. Lisa Schwiebert and Maria Doce, and the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House for the loving care they gave her.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
