LOIS GENE (AUSTIN) DURR

Lois Gene (Austin) Durr was born on Oct. 22, 1927, to James and Mary (Ely) Austin. Lois graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1945 and was united in marriage to Robert Durr the same year on November 25. Lois was a lifelong member of rural Williamsburg where she worked the land alongside her husband. Lois and Robert's marriage was blessed with two children.
Lois Gene was named for her Uncle Eugene Ely, who is known as the father of naval aviation. Lois proudly spoke of Eugene. Lois Enjoyed baking, cooking, farming alongside her husband, gardening, and helping raise her grandchildren. She was considered a "go to" in all areas of her hobbies. Lois loved to do the Gazette's crossword puzzles and put many puzzles together throughout her lifetime. Lois passed away Feb. 22, 2022.
She is survived by her two children, Linda Allar of Marengo and Steven (Marna) Durr of Williamsburg; three grandchildren, Dale Allar of Orchard, Neb., Matthew (Theresa) Durr of Casper, Wyo., and Anna Durr of Dyersville, Iowa; four great-grandchildren, Nicole and Bobbi Jo Allar of Williamsburg and William and Thomas Durr of Casper, Wyo.; sister-in-law, Donna Durr of Forsyth, Mo.; several nieces and nephews; and special family friends, Maralyn Slaymaker and David and Denisa Leubka, all of Williamsburg.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; parents; brother, James Austin and his wife Jean; in-laws, Orville and Elizabeth Von Ahsen and Charles Durr; nieces, Brenda Evans and Janice Curl; a special family friend and neighbor, Tom Slaymaker.
A special thank-you to the staff of the North English Care Center. Lois loved you all.
A Celebration Of Life memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 8, 2022, at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. A visitation will be from
9:30 until service time on Friday. A memorial fund has been established for the English Valley Care Center and Alzheimer Association of Iowa. Messages and tributes may be sent to the family at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
