Lois Gauntt
LOIS GAUNTT
Hiawatha
Lois Gauntt (nee Haeussler), 84, passed away in her home in Hiawatha, Iowa, on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014.
She was born to a farm family on March 3, 1930, in Ryan, Iowa, the daughter of William and Esther (Falconer) Haeussler. Lois enjoyed marching band, music, basketball and drama. In college, she studied nursing and business administration. Married twice, she traveled the world extensively and lived in Texas, Rome, Brazil and Singapore. Upon returning to her roots in Iowa, she worked in avionics at Rockwell Collins until her retirement. She was compassionate, caring and very pleased with herself when she was able to make anyone laugh. In retirement, she enjoyed reading murder mysteries, good food and long conversations with friends and family. Despite her world travels, Lois always remained a small town girl.
She is survived by her brother, Bill Hauessler (Doris) of Marion; three children, Patricia Deming (Michael) of Kettle Falls, Wash., Doug McKirahan of San Francisco, Calif., and Blair Gauntt of Hiawatha; along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
There will be a service at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, at Zion Presbyterian Church, 110 N. Third St., Coggon. There will be a graveside memorial followed by a lunch at the church. As per her wishes, Lois will be cremated. Her earthly remains will be interred in the Coggon Cemetery alongside her beloved parents. Arrangements are with Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Marion.
The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of Mercy and to Unity Point Clinic and countless others who have provided loving care and support to their mother in the past several years.
Memorials may be directed to the family to assist with expenses.
Please share your support and condolences with Lois' family on her celebration wall at www.stewartbaxter.com under obituaries.
