Lois Ellen Grassfield, 76, of Anamosa, Iowa, passed away on Monday, Dec. 5, 2022, at UnityPoint-St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16, 2022, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa, where funeral services will begin at 2 p.m., with Lois’s brother, Reverend Roger Grassfield officiating. Burial will follow at Wilcox Cemetery in Viola, Iowa.
Lois was born on April 2, 1946, in Cedar Rapids, the youngest of four children to Howard Ira and Mable Lois (Moss) Grassfield. From age 14 until 17, Lois was a member of the Rainbows in Anamosa, achieving the highest level of honor, “Worthy Advisor.” She was a 1964 graduate of Anamosa High School. While in high school, she was a member of the Glee Club, singing both Alto and Soprano. In 1963, Lois was united in marriage to Larry Culver, to this union her two sons, Leon and Loren, were born. Lois went on to work at Collins Radio on the assembly line. She later worked briefly at Cucklers Building Systems in Monticello, Iowa, until she decided to leave. It was then when Lois realized that her ultimate loving desire was to be at home, raising her two boys and being the “Best Mom” and homemaker, she could ever be. Lois and Larry later divorced in 1978. Lois married Lawrence Schwers in 1979, until their divorce in 2015. She continued to live in her home until the Spring of 2022. Lois will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Lois is survived and lovingly remembered by her two sons, Leon (Christine) Culver and Loren (Becky) Culver, all of Marion; seven grandsons, Logan Culver, Wyatt Culver, Nicholas Culver (Michelle Nguyen), Casey (Hailey) Culver, Lucas Culver, Travis (Megan) Fish, and Joseph Fish; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Vivian Collins of Central City, Iowa; one barother, Roger Grassfield of North Carolina; brother-in-law, Wilbur Collins of Viola, Iowa, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Marjorie Collins; and brother-in-law, Cecil Collins.
