Lois Georgene Julian Eells, 91, passed peacefully into the loving arms of her savior on July 29, 2014, in Cedar Rapids after a long struggle with COPD. Memorial services will be at Lovely Lane United Methodist Church, 2424 42nd St. NE, Cedar Rapids, at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. at the church. She has been inurned at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Lois was born Feb. 1, 1923, in Dodge County, Minn., to Orville and Ida Mae (Goodrich) Julian. She grew up in Lehigh, Iowa, graduated with a teaching degree from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and taught in Stanhope. She married Donald R. Eells on March 30, 1943. They moved around many times during their marriage for Don's work as an educator and principal. Upon his retirement, they spent many happy years in Green Valley, Ariz., before moving to Cedar Rapids to be near their children and grandchildren.
Lois is survived by three children: Lew (Bette) Eells, son, Cedar Rapids; Julie (David) Ducharme, daughter, DeForest, Wis.; and Len (Karen) Eells, son, Winnebago, Ill. She was very proud of her five grandchildren: Spencer (Kris) Eells and Craig (Kelly) Eells, Cedar Rapids; Dominique (Mike) Bockman, Decorah; Becky Ducharme, Madison, Wis.; Amanda (Jason) Anderson, Stoughton, Wis.; and Pam (Shane) Anderson, Rockford, lll. She dearly loved her great-grandchildren, Carson, Jenna, Jackson, Parker Eells, Nicholas, Patrick, Benjamin Bockman, Samuel Anderson, Caitlin and Noah Anderson.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents and devoted husband, Donald R. Eells.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to Dr. Stahlberg, Home Instead Senior Care, all the wonderful caregivers, especially Peggy Kuba, and Hospice of Mercy for its kind and compassionate care.
