Lois Bernita Colvin, 72, of Newell, Iowa, died Sunday, March 9, 2014, at her home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 13, at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Milford (Iowa) Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
Lois Payton was born Feb. 19, 1942, in Fairview, Iowa, daughter of Francis and Stella Mae (Bemrose) Payton. Growing up, she lived with her grandmother from the age of 3 to 8. She then moved home to her parents and later graduated from the Mechanicsville High School in 1958.
In 1962, Lois was united in marriage to Paul Allen Davis. Together they were blessed with four children: Dwight Allen, Bernita Joann, Jerry Todd and Paula Annette.
Later in life, Lois married Milton Colvin on Dec. 22, 1978, in Clarence, Iowa.
Lois worked as a nurse's aide for Cedar County and a waitress before starting her 21 year-long career at Bil-Mar.
Lois will be remembered for her willingness to help others. She was always caring for her neighbors and friends.
She enjoyed taking long walks, picnics, fishing, the outdoors, angels and playing bingo and the penny slots.
Most of all, Lois loved her family and friends.
She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Dwight Davis, Bernita (Marvin) Hartman, Jerry (Debbie) Davis and Paula (Shane) Bulten; stepchildren, Sharon (Don) Stewart, Linda (Gene) Horman, Micheal (Lisa) Colvin and Diane Northington; 11 grandchildren; nine stepgrand-children; 10 great-grandchildren; 12 stepgreat-grandchildren; brother, Louis (Duke) Payton; extended family and friends.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Stella; her husband, Milton Colvin; brothers, John, Woodrow Marion, James and Wayne; sister, Pauline; two infant siblings; and stepfather, Jim Danley.
