Loggins, Carl 'Douglas'
Carl “Douglas” Loggins, died peacefully Monday, Oct. 12, 2009, at the age of 83.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Vernon Inn Restaurant, 2663 Mount Vernon Rd.
Survivors include his son, Scott Loggins and wife Kim; two daughters, Michele Schrodermier and Dawn Slocum; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pat Matthews Loggins in 2007.
Doug was born April 4, 1926, to Carl Greer Loggins and Alma Ruth Loggins in Charlotte, Tenn. The family moved to Dayton, Ohio, in 1933.
He served in the Army Air Corp in 1944 and 1945. In 1945, he was discharged and in 1945, he entered the University of Cincinnati engineering college, later transferring to the University of Dayton in 1947.
He married Patricia Jean Matthews in 1947, and they were together for 59 years until her death in 2007.
He began his 40 year career at Standard Register Co. in Dayton, Ohio, in 1948, in marketing. In 1949, Doug and Pat transferred to Minneapolis, Minn. They moved to Cedar Rapids, beginning in 1952.
Doug was a member and a past president of the Cedar Rapids Tuesday Noon Optimist Club for more than 57 years.
Doug had a passion for the design and building cherry Queen Anne furniture. He was an avid photographer, bicyclist and loved entertaining family and friends.
Besides being a devoted father and loving husband, Doug will be remembered for his great sense of humor, quick wit and his great stories.
