Loes, Paul 'Dutch'
Paul “Dutch” Loes, 89, died Monday, Dec. 19, 2011, at Avera Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D., after suffering a fall in his home. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Lambert's Catholic Church, Sioux Falls, with a reception to follow. Burial will take place at a later date in Cascade, Iowa. Arrangements are with Miller Funeral Home in Sioux Falls, S.D.
He was a World War II veteran who was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross and the Purple Heart. After retiring from Iowa National Mutual Ins. Co., he became an active “City Hall Watch Dog,” rarely missing a city or county commission meeting.
He is survived by Fern, his wife of 59 years; their four sons, Mark (Penny) and Eric (Cate), both of Franklin, Tenn., Gary (Mary Ann) of San Diego, Calif., and Todd (Robin) of Waterloo; and five grandchildren.
