Lockwood, Robert E.
Robert E. Lockwood, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died at Mercy Medical Center from a sudden illness on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011. Funeral services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories by Cedar Memorial Certified Celebrant Julie Freese. Entombment: Mount Calvary Cemetery. A visitation will be held Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m.
Survivors include his daughter, Peggy (Dennis) Farley of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Shelly Chandler of Cedar Rapids and Jenny Farley of Mount Vernon; great-grandchildren, Madison Chandler and Katelyn Chandler; and a brother, Melvin Lockwood of Nevada.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Josephine; and two brothers, Lewis and Earl Lockwood.
Robert was born Sept. 14, 1920, in Holton, Mo., to Bert and Caroline Lockwood. Robert married Josephine Thompson in Anamosa on July 14, 1941. She died May 5, 2008. He enlisted in the United States Army during World War II and was stationed in Alaska and France, where he was wounded, receiving a Purple Heart.
Robert worked for Iowa Tractor from 1945-1950. Robert was employed at P&H Harnischfeger Manufacturing from 1950-1982, retiring from there. He also worked as a tractor mechanic for Dows Farms.
Robert loved spending time with his family and doing yard work.
