Lloyd Pearson, 84, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26, at Overton Funeral Home, Dysart, where visitation will be one hour before service time. Burial: Dysart Cemetery.
Lloyd was born Jan. 30, 1931, in Fort Recovery, Ohio, the son of Gerald and Gertrude (Matthews) Pearson. He grew up in Ohio and graduated from high school in Bowling Green. Lloyd then attended Bowling Green University for two years before he was inducted into the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean conflict. On April 24, 1954, Lloyd was united in marriage to Martha Kohoutek at the Bowling Green University Chapel. The couple moved to Cedar Rapids in 1961, when Lloyd started his own dry wall business, Pearson Wall Systems. He retired in 1993.
Lloyd was a member of Mount Herman Masonic Lodge 263, El Kahir Shriners Club, American Legion Post 0729, Fraternal Order of Eagles and Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
He enjoyed University of Iowa basketball games, camping, fishing, country western music, dancing and playing Cribbage.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant twin brother.
Lloyd is survived by his wife, Martha of Cedar Rapids; two sons, Greg Pearson of Wilmington, N.C., and Steve Pearson of Santa Fe, N.M.; two granddaughters, Emma and Lily Pearson of Santa Fe; a brother, William (Eileen) Pearson of Fort Meyers Beach, Fla.; a niece, Jean Williams of Huntington, N.Y.; and a nephew, Bill Pearson Jr. of South Lyon, Mich.
Lloyd's family would like to thank the staff at West Ridge Care Center and St. Luke's Hospital for all of their care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Gloria Dei Building Fund or American Heart Association.
