Lloyd Wayne Atwater, 68, of Malabar, Fla., formerly of Marion, died Monday, June 2, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Graveside Service: 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 6, at Lafayette Cemetery, rural Alburnett, by the Rev. Mike Morgan, with military honors. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 5, at First United Methodist Church, 1298 Seventh Ave., Marion, IA 52302.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Marilyn; children, Angela Yeisley (Mike Lyness) of Cedar Rapids and George (Jamie) Atwater of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Mackenzie, Alex, Lucas, Lily, Ella and Asher; one great-grandson, Isaac; siblings, Sharon (Gary) Knapp of Marion, Vern (Nancy) Atwater of Minnesota, Sue Kelly of Springville and Larry (Sue) Atwater of Cedar Rapids; brother-in-law, Charles Stephan of Texas; sister-in-law, Marianne Stephan of Martelle; and numerous nieces, nephews and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Lloyd was born April 23, 1946, in Cedar Rapids, the son of George and Esther (Booth) Atwater. He graduated from Marion High School in 1964, and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Vietnam War. Lloyd married Marilyn J. Stephan on March 28, 1970, in Marion. He was a truck driver, hauling grain for many years and working at King's Materials in Cedar Rapids, for 15 years until his retirement. Lloyd was a member of American Legion Post No. 298 of
Marion.
