Livingston, Lois Mellor
Lois Mellor Livingston, 67, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha following an extended illness. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at Salem United Methodist Church, 3715 33rd Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, with Chaplain Deb Black officiating. Her family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time at the church.
Lois was born March 10, 1945, in Monticello to Charles Royston and Essie (Boots) Mellor. On April 27, 1984, she was united in marriage to Jack R. Livingston. They honored their wedding vows by caring for each other in sickness and in health. As a couple they enjoyed dancing, camping, traveling and antiquing together. Jack preceded her in death on Oct. 3, 2012.
Lois also enjoyed shopping, lunches and time spent with friends, especially the “MHS Gals of ‘64.” But her greatest pleasure came from time spent with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Michael (Linda) Pedersen of Bellevue; her daughter, Susan (Scott) Gardner of Vinton; her stepdaughter, Heather (Curtis) Smith of Davidson, N.C.; her grandchildren, Katelyn and Nick Gardner and Brad and Emily Pedersen; her stepgrandchildren, Addison and Kayleen Smith and Rachel Olsen; and her sisters, Glady McMellor of Cedar Rapids, Dolores McAteer of Marion and Edna (Roy) Kintz of Robins.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Vida Mellor Gudenkauf; and her brother, Frank Fitzsimmons.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for Salem United Methodist Church and Hospice of Mercy.
Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements.
