Little, Billy L.
Billy L. Little, 67, of Elkader, passed away at his residence on Thursday, April 22, 2010, following a brief battle with cancer. Funeral services: 10 a.m. Monday, April 26, at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader, with Pastor Andrea Mericle officiating. Interment, with military honors: East Side Cemetery. Visitation: 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Leonard Funeral Home in Elkader.
Bill was born Feb. 5, 1943, in Manchester, to Harvey and Dorothy (Gienapp) Little. He resided in Elkader, where he graduated from Central Community High School. Following graduation, Bill joined the United States Air Force on Aug. 30, 1962, and was honorably discharged on Feb. 10, 1966. During this time, he served as an air policeman.
On Aug. 15, 1970, Bill was united in marriage to Helen Wilke at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader. The couple resided in Elkader following their marriage. Bill worked at several places, namely, Trade Mark Homes in Guttenberg, Area One Meal Site, Johnson's Restaurant and Elkader Dry Cleaners.
Bill enjoyed nature and history. You could often find him hunting, fishing, or just walking the woods, where he looked for arrowheads. He also enjoyed historic re-enactments and rendezvous. Bill took much pride in being an instructor for the Iowa Hunter Safety Education classes that were held at Osborne. The interaction with the kids was special to him.
Survivors include his wife, Helen, of Elkader; sister, Georgia (John) Beeh of Idaho; sister-in-law, Melissa Wilke of Elkader; nieces, nephews and numerous friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his twin sister, Barbara Jean Little.
Bill touched many hearts and will be missed by many.
