Lita Schminke, 85, of Belle Plaine, died on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at the Belle Plaine Specialty Care Center with the love of her family surrounding her.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 20, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 21, at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Graveside services will follow at
2 p.m. in Oakhill Cemetery in Belle Plaine, Iowa.
She is survived by two sons, Craig (Lisa Wach), and Doug (Joanne), all of Belle Plaine; four grandchildren, C.J. (Jessica) Schminke, Brooke (Anthony) Ivester, Bridgette (Jacob) Miller and Marlee Schminke; a step-granddaughter, Melissa (Jason) Weldon; and seven great–grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glenn Schminke; and three siblings, Gertrude Meyer, Dr. Henry Albers and Inge Leonette.
Lita was born May 28, 1932, near Keystone, the daughter of Hartwig and Bertha Lilie Albers. She graduated from Belle Plaine Community High School and Kirkwood Community College. Lita married Glenn Schminke on Jan. 21, 1951, at First Lutheran Church, Belle Plaine.
Lita was parish secretary at First Lutheran Church prior to working in the trust division at Firstar Bank in Cedar Rapids. She retired in 1996. Lita was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church and a former member of Athena, Federated Women's Club of Belle Plaine. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Hiawatha Library, Mercy Medical Center or the Belle Plaine Lutheran Church.
