Lindsey, James R.
James R. Lindsey, 92, of Onslow, died Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, at the Anamosa Care Center, Anamosa. A celebration of his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at the Onslow Presbyterian Church, Onslow. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Lahey Funeral Home, Wyoming, where a Masonic service will be held at 6 p.m. Burial will be in the Wyoming Cemetery, Wyoming, Iowa, with military honors accorded by the Wyoming American Legion Post #259.
James Ryden Lindsey was born Dec. 7, 1918, in Marion, the son of James Sankey and Lucy (Ryden) Lindsey. He graduated from High School in Kansas and attended Coe College for one year. He married Kathryn Davis on Feb. 12, 1943, in Norfolk, Va. He served in the U.S. Army, during World War II, receiving the Purple Heart and was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge. Jim owned and operated Jim's Welding Shop for 23 years in Onslow.
He was a member of Onslow Presbyterian Church since 1953, where he served as trustee and elder. He was also a member of the Wyoming American Legion Post #259 and the Masonic Lodge Ancient Landmark #200 in Olin. He served as mayor of Onslow for 11 years. Jim was a very skilled woodworker.
Jim is survived by his wife, Kathryn Lindsey of Anamosa; a daughter, Barbara “Bobbie” (Wayne) Snyder of Maryville, Mo.; two grandchildren, Christy (Greg) Bartlett of Austin, Texas, and David (Angie) Snyder of El Paso, Texas; and four great-grandchildren, Austin and Melissa Bartlett and Alexandria and Sidney Snyder.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother.
Memorials may be given to the Onslow Presbyterian Church.
