Lindsey, Betty J.
Betty J. Lindsey, 79, died peacefully at the Vinton Lutheran Home Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton, with the Rev. Lanette Sue Van officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and for an hour before services on Tuesday. Burial: Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton.
Betty was born July 23, 1932, in Vinton, the daughter of Francis and Thelma (Sellers) Walter. She was raised and attended school in Vinton. On Aug. 3, 1950, she married Oscar Lindsey in Cedar Rapids. The couple lived in Vinton and Betty worked for over 40 years at Campbell Russell Overton Funeral Home.
She was an avid bowler and won many trophies. She enjoyed the Minnesota Twins, and Iowa Hawkeyes and attending her grandchildren's activities.
She is survived by her daughters, Peggy (Lanny) Stephens of Brandon and Penny Lindsey of Vinton; her sister, Janet Rommann of Marengo; three grandchildren, Lanja (Frankie) Dulin, Sheryl Rackle and Lisa Selken; seven great-grandchildren; nephew, Robin Walter Sr.; and several other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Oscar; twin sons at birth; daughter, Debbie; and great-grandson, Lane Rackle.
A memorial fund has been established.
