Lindauer, Robert W.
Robert W. Lindauer, 67, of 1113 Second Ave. SE, Cascade, died Thursday, July 29, 2010, at 9:13 a.m. at his home, surrounded by his family. Friends and relatives may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, where a wake service will be held at 8 p.m. Services for Robert will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Cascade, with the Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Cascade, with full military honors accorded by the Cascade American Legion Post No. 528.
Robert was born Sept. 2, 1942, in Temple Hill, Iowa, son of Ed and Stella (Kintzle) Lindauer. He received his education in the Garryowen area schools. On Nov. 19, 1966, he was united in marriage to Helen Greiner at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Worthington, Iowa. Bob was employed at Cargill Corn Sweetener Plant in Cedar Rapids, until his retirement in 2006. After his retirement, Bob was a bus driver for the
Western Dubuque Schools. He was a Navy veteran, having served aboard the USS Cadmus in the Cuban
Crisis.
Bob had a strong work ethic instilled in him by his parents and uncle, Carl Kintzle. He enjoyed camping, driving his restored Allis Chalmers and Super M tractors in parades, traveling with family and friends, western movies and making his special fudge. He was a member of St. Matthias Parish and the
Cascade American Legion Post No. 528.
He is survived by his wife, Helen “Blondi” Lindauer of Cascade; four children, Dr. Jeff (Pam) Lindauer of Buffalo, N.Y., and their children, Reed, Paige and Kate, Todd (Debbie) Lindauer of Kenosha, Wis., their daughter, Kelsey, Lisa Lindauer of Cascade, and Amy Block of Peosta, and her children, Hunter, Jackson and Landon; six siblings, Don (Ellen) Lindauer of Cascade, Isabelle Lindauer of Dubuque, Helen (Roger) Sherman of East Dubuque, Ill., Alice (Jim) Wolf of Dubuque, Mary Green of Cascade, and Jane Lindauer of Dubuque; sisters and brothers-in-laws, Kay (Eldon) Funke of Monticello, Marie (Ray) Steinlage of Worthington, Nancy (Ron) Kavars of Dubuque, and Sally (Bob) Farmer of Hopkinton; and his faithful companions, his cats Tabitha and Samantha.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ed Lindauer; two brothers-in-laws John Greiner and Gil Green; a nephew, Doug Wolf; a niece, Angela Farmer; and his father and mother-in-law, Clem and Mildred (Lehman) Greiner.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Hermann, Tony Heier, ARNP, the nurses and staff of Dubuque Internal Medicine, Reiff Ambulance Service and Hospice of Dubuque for their professional and compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Bob's family or to Hospice of Dubuque.
